Dear Westlawn Elementary Families,
Having had to cancel the first day of school (Sept. 9th, 2020)l due to fog, The Jay School Corporation contacted the Indiana Department of Education to determine if we could use eLearning rather than adding a day to the end of the school year. The IDOE has authorized The Jay School Corporation to use eLearning as a way to make up our cancelled day on September 9, 2020. The day we will be using for this eLearning make-up day will be Wednesday, December 23rd, 2020. Here are the procedures we will follow for this eLearning make-up day:
Teachers will post eLearning content on their Google Classrooms in the same manner as they have (or would) for a weather-related eLearning Day no later than 3:00 PM, Friday December 18th. On Monday, December 21st teachers will review expectations and answer student questions about the eLearning assignments. On Tuesday, December 22nd, all Chromebooks will go home with students.
Students will have all of Christmas break and the first two days of school upon return from break to complete the assignments. This will be “Asynchronous” eLearning therefore the teacher is not expected to be available over the course of Christmas Break. However, any issues the students may need assistance with should be addressed upon return from break. As is our current practice for eLearning, teachers have the discretion to extend deadlines for hardship situations.

Monday, December 7th, 2020 will be Holiday Spirit Day!!! Students and staff are encouraged to wear anything and everything that is red and green to help us with our Holiday Spirit at Westlawn Elementary!!!
Free Food Box Giveaway!
Glad Tidings Church will be distributing free food boxes drive-thru style here at the Westlawn Elementary parking lot on Saturday, December 5th 2020, from 2-4 PM. Please pull into the line, open your trunk , and a volunteer will place the box in your car.

A reminder to everyone that we will begin our planned weekly 2 Hour Delay on Wednesday, December 2, 2020, to provide teachers additional time to prepare and plan instruction and support for students. Westlawn Elementary will host a food pantry TODAY from 3-5 PM for all Westlawn Elementary families and staff! This year we will continue the no contact distribution process. We are asking that families follow the instructions below:
1. Please line up in your car using the map below.
2. Please remain in your cars and pop the trunk or hatch.
3. Your food bag will be placed in your vehicle.
4. Please follow the line around to Pearl Stree to exit.
