After the performances, please visit the 6th grade art show in the cafeteria. Students in grades 3, 4, and 5 will have their art projects displayed throughout the building. Take a walk with your student and see their creations. All students may take home their artwork at 7:30 p.m. We look forward to seeing you for this family event!

IMPORTANT UPDATE INFORMATION
East Jay Elementary Spring Parent Teacher Conferences will be held on Monday, April 3, 2023 from 3:00-6:00 PM.
This will be an Open House format, as we have done, in the past. If you have any questions, please contact the East Jay Office: 260-726-9371.
For students in Grade 3, prior to the conferences you will receive information regarding your child’s IREAD-3 score. If you have questions or concerns about this information, we strongly encourage you to attend the conferences.

SPRING BREAK REMINDER
Jay Schools are on a 2 hour delay, Tuesday, March 14, 2023.
There will be a workshop offered for Caregivers of Dependents with Special Needs on April 4th at 6:00 pm. See the attached flier for details.
Fifth grade students in Miss Post's science class have been learning about the nervous system. In these photos, students are learning how the brain sends messages to react, in order to catch a ruler being dropped.
CONGRATULATIONS to sixth grade students, Kendall Schemenaur and Jace Vance. Kendall and Jace will be moving on to compete at the regional Optimists Oratorical Contest, April 11th at West Jay Elementary. Best of luck to them both as they represent East Jay!
Important Upcoming Events for East Jay Elementary
East Jay Elementary recently celebrated two very special ladies for their retirement.
Mrs. Terri (Franklin) Bone was hired at Jay Schools in 1985 to teach first grade at Pennville Elementary. She spent the next two years with the same students, teaching second grade in 1986 and third grade in 1987. She taught 4 years at Pennville before teaching at Judge Haynes Elementary. There, she taught third grade until the building’s closing in the Spring of 2018. Throughout the consolidation period, Terri continued teaching third grade at General Shanks, and finally, East Jay Elementary. Regardless of the school, if you have worked with Terri or were a student in her class, there is a funny story or a special memory to treasure!
Terri is newly married and loving life. She and her husband, Mike, have been busy traveling and getting their new home settled.
Mrs. Lori Sims started subbing in the corporation in 1994. She subbed at all the schools in our corporation until she started full time at Judge Haynes in 1996. She worked as an aide in the Kindergarten rooms and as the “time out lady” when needed. Lori made the move to East Jay in 1998 as an instructional assistant, but spent the last several years as the secretary for East Jay Middle School, and eventually East Jay Elementary. During several summers, Lori subbed, when needed, for Summer School. One summer she worked 1:1 doing sign language with a student at East Elementary. Wherever she was, you can bet there were candies in her desk for you!
Lori is now working on some projects at home, and enjoying time with her grandchildren.
You both have touched the lives of many students through the years and made many life-long friendships along the way. It is our sincerest wish that you both have a wonderful retirement. Please know that we miss your smiling faces and your caring hearts.

United Way Dress-Up Days for East and East Jay Elementary
Congratulations to the East Jay Elementary Spelling Bee Winners and Participants. Sixth grade student, Adryen Cox. was our winner, with Connor Stultz, also sixth grade, runner-up.
The Ball State PBS Spelling Bee, our area’s national qualifier spelling bee, will take place March 11, 2023, at Sursa Performance Hall on the campus of Ball State University.
